    The Knockout Queen

The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe came on my radar when it was a Book of the Month selection last year. I wasn't sure what it was about, but the cover intrigued me, so I added it to my list. (I have no shame in saying that sometimes an aesthetically pleasing cover influences my reading choices.) I will say, this one was a pleasant surprise. I liked it much more than I was expecting. The cast of characters has to be one of the most unique ones I have ever read and it was truly

    Pet Sematary

When I was a young, 12 year old, trying to escape the confines of my strict home life, my form of rebelling was taking the city bus to the public library and hiding in the stacks with Stephen King. I read Misery, Carrie, Cujo, and others. It was something about the horror genre that drew me in. Looking back now, I think it is how immersive King's books can be. I wanted to be transported and his books did just that. As an adult, I haven't touched a King book in years, but I ha

Caste: The Origins of our Discontents

I've seen review after review stating Caste : The Origins of our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson should be required reading for all Americans. After finishing this book, I cannot agree more. There is a lot to unpack with this one and it will make you self reflect and feel uncomfortable, but it is so so necessary. Caste will hold a mirror up to your darkest biases and will go against what you learned in grade school history class, but it is all facts compiled by Wilkerson's re

    Confessions

My latest podcast obsession has been keeping me busy with reading suggestions. BookTalk, etc. is hosted by two of my book besties, Renee and Tina, and they have no shortage of amazing recommendations. A recent episode mentioned Confessions by Kanae Minato. A book about revenge in all it's dark glory. After reading the synopsis, I knew this was a book for me. It is dark, manic and engrossing. A truly unique thriller told from multiple narrators and from multiple mediums, inclu

    Rock Paper Scissors

It's about time I found a thriller that rocked my socks off. Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney is that! This dark and twisty psychological domestic thriller takes place over the span of an anniversary weekend in a remote rental home kept me reading into the late hours of the night. It has been a long time since I've read a book that I quite literally could not put down. The plot twists kept coming and the finale blew me away. I can honestly say, this is one of the best thri
