    Somebody's Daughter

Somebody's Daughter by Ashley C. Ford is a memoir to add to your list. Especially for those who love a heartfelt coming-of-age memoir about complex family dynamics. Ford begins her story laying out her family unit, which includes the fact that her father is in jail. She yearns for the father she wishes him to be, while also struggles with finding her footing in the world, trying to please everyone, but herself. The title is so fitting, as Ford wants to be a "daughter" to some

    Coming-of-age novels w/ female leads

I am a huge fan of coming-of-age stories, especially if they feature a strong, assertive, bada$$ female protagonist. Putting this list together was such a pleasure. The diversity in authors, characters, and storylines made my heart swell. Each of these books was a favorite of mine and they each tell a story from a unique perspective. I wish all of these women were real people because I would be begging to be their best friend. Check out these titles and a little about each le

    Black Cake

I am not ashamed to admit that I picked this book up because of it's beautiful cover. I got an ARC of Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson from one of my favorite independent bookstores, Subtext Books, located in St Paul, MN. Pro tip: Your local indie bookstore gets more free books from publishers than they know what to do with. So next time you visit and make a purchase, ask if you can browse their ARC stash and they just may let you take some home....for FREE. I made this disc

What I have learned growing my account

My Night's Booked started back in January 2019, when I was just a baby book blogger trying to find my footing in the massive world of blogging and Instagram. I had this idea that I thought was unique, little did I know just how many others thought the same because the #bookstagram community is HUGE. What I thought was a unique idea was one being duplicated almost daily by other Instagram accounts. I struggled with getting my feet under me and finding where I fit in with this

    A Flicker in the Dark

Let me begin this review with stating that I can see why people are loving this book. A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham is a standard mainstream thriller with all the tropes that people love. While I enjoyed it and it kept me entertained, I did have a few complaints. I chalk most of this up to the fact that I am an avid thriller reader, so my standards are pretty high. A Flicker in the Dark won't be making my "best of 2022" list anytime soon, but it did the job for wh

    Thrillers set on vacation

Who doesn't love a tropical vacation with a little side of murder? I have you covered with my curated book list featuring thrillers set on vacations. These are a mix of newer releases and backlist books, as well as some lesser known titles. I found that my library had most of these available, but if you want to have a copy to keep in your personal library, I've included my Bookshop.org link below. I hope these titles transport you on a "killer" tropical vacation and keep you

    Bright Burning Things

Thank you Bibliolifestyle and Harper Via for the #gifted copy of Bright Burning Things by Lisa Harding, in exchange for an honest review. #partner Bright Burning Things by Lisa Harding is an unflinching, honest, visceral depiction of addiction, recovery and motherhood. Reading this book kept me in a constant state of worry and anxiety, which I imagine is what it feels like to watch a family member or loved one struggle with addiction. Bright Burning Things is being compared t

    Crying in H Mart

It is no secret that I love a good memoir. What I love even more is if the memoir is raw, visceral and honest. And even more if the audio is narrated by the author themselves. All of this played into why I loved Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. Michelle Zauner is the singer and guitarist for the indie band Japanese Breakfast. Born to a Korean mother and an American father, Zauner grew up grappling with where she fit in between her two cultures. She shared a love of food w

    New Year, Same You.

I am sure you have heard the saying, "new year, new you" but what about "new year, same you"? I'm all about personal development, but am also realistic that I cannot put tons of pressure on myself at the beginning of a new year and expect to keep that momentum going all year. I try and focus on attainable goals, as well as intentions and affirmations. New Year's resolutions seem daunting to me, so I do things like journal prompts, create a vision board, and set a few attainab
